Fresh For ‘09..You Sucka’s

I suck at Film

So I acquired a Diana F+ off of Craigslist recently, and what started out as a hobby has turned into an obsession. I went through 4 rolls of film in about 10 days, and most of the results have been less than stellar. I also purchased a scanner so I can scan in my negatives and not have to pay a printer, mostly because I’m a cheap bastard and film can be quite pricey.

Well right now I’m working on a 35mm roll in my Diana, and since the Diana normally shoots 120, the picture should bleed through the sprocket holes, kinda like this. I’m not expecting much with the first roll, but we shall see.

Here’s my first foray into the wonderful world of film:

Sofie through Diana

The B&W film I used was Lomography 100 speed and it looks really crappy. I doubt I will ever use that brand of film ever again,

So I haven’t updated my blog in like a year, but I plan on updating my exploits with film more frequently. I also have my sisters Canon AE-1 35mm, I’ll post those as well.

Photo’s of Valentines Day Party

Amber and I have some friends named Gail and Guy, and they threw a Valentines/Birthday party on the 14th.

Below are the best pictures. My goal was not to fire the flash.

Bike Ride To 7-11 Photo’s

I rode my bike to 7-11 to get a Slurpee with Crysta. I actually towed her via jump rope and we both talked about how immature it must look for a 33 year old man towing a 24 year old lady on roller blades to 7-11 to get slurpees. But then we said who gives a shit, because if more people rode bikes to 7-11 for Vanilla Coke Slurpees, then everybody wouldn’t be so fuckin miserable.

Another thing. I absolutely love the neighborhood I live in.

The lighting at Ikea makes good photo’s

My family is a bunch of hot sluts for IKEA. Their hot dogs, Smaland and of course their .99 Frozen Yogurts.

The IKEA warehouse also has good lighting for pictures.

Jars

There’s a term I hate that photographers use, and that’s the term Bokeh. I prefer the term “Lens Blur”, because I don’t feel like such a pretentious goofus when I use it.

More CSS Shizzz

I’m still working through my CSS book and I’m using a Bart Simpson bookmark so I don’t lose my place. I’m working on backgrounds now, and this is where photoshop skills come in handy. I have none. To be quite honest there isn’t much help as far as books go in the aspect of photoshop for web design, since everyone, myself included, has gone DSLR on the entire world, 99% of all books are Digital Photo related. Very few help with web design…bastards!!

Anyway..on to backgrounds:

Defining Background-Origin.

The starting point for the calculation of the background-position property of an element is determined by background-origin property:

  • border
  • padding
  • content
  • Applying the border value, the calculations for the background images position will start from the edge of the border of the element.

Actually, I don’t have example to show you, so just know that as of today only Mozilla, Safari and Konqueror support background-origin.

Next up on the agenda is navigation. Lots of markup here.

Here are 2 quick examples of CSS designed web pages that I just think are the shit man. The shit!
    CSS – PunkAss
    CSS – Hedges

Also, I’ve been playing around in photoshop and Color Efex Pro and they have this filter that simulates film grain and it’s a lot of fun. Here is an example via Google Picasa 3 uploads due to me being a poor bastard who hasn’t updated his pro account with Flickr yet.

    Photo’s from the day

I meet my wife for lunch at Ikea today, partly for lunch, partly to pick up a toy tea set for my daughter’s friend Nina. It’s been raining like non-stop here in socal for like 3 days, and for Pittsburgh that’s nothing, but for California that seemed like the end of days. So we have this mountain in Orange County called Saddleback Mountain and everyone has been freaking out over the amount of snow on it. What’s ironic is that it actually gets snow like once a year, sometimes for a week, sometimes for a few hours, depending on the amount of sun it gets the following week. So I took my camera to get a few pics.

    Clouds Galore.

Oh well, maybe tomorrow I’ll have better luck.

We had fun with Tegan at Ikea. Sofie played in smaland while we shopped.
    Here are the pictures:

All of my photos are hosted by Flickr , which is probably my favorite site in all of the world. Flickr is magically babelicious. I’ve had a pro account for the past 2 years and have well over a 1000 photo’s on it. I did however let my pro account recently expire, and asked my wife to renew it for me for Christmas. Easy Christmas gift.

Alright next post will be sIFR related.

TV On The Radio has been the music in my ears all day. The first and third album.

    Staring at the sun indeed……

    W.I.L.T. Cascading Style Sheets 4

After a minor setback, I finally understand why I wasn’t able to get the sIFR to work. You are unable to test it on your local server (your computer), so I’m in negotiations with my awesome sister in law to see if I can borrow some server space to get them up and running. I found help via a website called Design Intellection that breaks it down for you like you’re a 5 year old. Or a 3 year old if your name is Michael Scott .

More to come after I put my daughters down for a nap and I snag a couple pictures of Saddleback Mountain with snow on it. Happens every year, but people always seem to forget come summer.

    New Time Lapse @ 6 FPS – T & J Playing Games

I’m not sure what this game is called, but Jim & his family call this game Lagger’s. It was introduced to the family by a man named Bill, and he thinks he is way pro at this game. Jim & I school this guy everytime we play him. Not to gloat, but yeah we whip his ass and it pisses him off.

    Salton Sea Photo’s

Salton Sea was once a fun little touristy town where people would vacation and swim, camp and boat…But that was in the 50’s and 60’s. Today it’s like a Mad Max all over the place.

A vast wasteland of abandoned homes with boarded up windows and a stench in the air that will make your eyes melt. I wish I could say that it was frozen in time, but it looks more like time melted the whole area. Strangely odd and beautiful at the same time.

    Abandoned Hotel:

    Rotted Camper:

    House that once was:

Playground Equipment that is now underground:

Half Buried Bus lighted up with Flashlights:

    And finally, Sunset:

Again, desaturated beyond what the original raw file looked like.

From what I could gather from info after the trip, the Imperial County board of Governors want the Salton Sea to be restored back to it’s original glory by the time 2035 hits. Good luck!

    Now, who needs a drink?
